Carl passed away on December 23, 2008, the birthday of his late loving wife Nelda.  He was born in Chicago Park, California and moved down to the Bay Area at 17 where he attended Concordia
High School

and College. He is survived by his two sons, Tom and Jon, their wives Anne and Megan, his five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
 
Carl served in the Army Air Corps for two years in Hawaii
prior to the 2nd World War.  He worked at Moore Dry Docks in Oakland
prior to starting his own business as a commercial painting contractor in 1939.  His business flourished for three generations, first in San Francisco, then Oakland and San Leandro
.  He was the national president of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (1975-76), served on the Board of the Salvation Army and was a member of the East Oakland
and Rossmoor Rotary Clubs. 
 
A Celebration of Life was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Creek on Sunday, December 28th at 1:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the East
